Star Anise, Whole

Our Organic Whole Star Anise (Illicium verum) tastes similar to, but a bit more flavorful than anise seed which comes from a completely different plant. Star anise is often used in Chinese and Vietnamese cooking. Its intriguing star shape adds visual interest as well as flavor when used in simmering meat dishes or in combination with other whole spices for mulling cider and wine. Star anise is also used as an essential ingredient in Chinese five spice powder.
 
Star anise provides potent licorice flavor and a pungent aroma, making it a powerful addition to any food or beverage. Star anise has a hint of warmth and can add an exotic edge to whatever you're cooking.
